summary. ashe is the iceborn daughter of grena, once warmother of the avarosan tribe. despite the harsh environment and difficulties their tribe faced, she was trained and loved by her mother and fathers, and grew up to be a determined, intelligent and caring girl.ashe's mother was obsessed with finding the throne of avarosa, a mythic place connected to the legendary figure her tribe was named after, believing it could restore them to their former glory. this led to the tribe taking heavy losses, until her own sister challenged grena for leadership, but her loss ensured ashe's mother remained in charge.eventually, during one of the pursuits for the throne, the avarosans were betrayed by their frost priest, maalcrom. even though he had feelings for ashe, this did not stop him from causing her mother's death and that of her fathers, or even of trying to kill ashe herself. when all seemed lost and the throne of avarosa empty, he almost succeeded before she found the true ice bow left beneath the pile of rocks that marked avarosa's grave and managed to kill her attacker.from then on, ashe had to survive completely alone after learning her entire tribe had been killed, until she was reunited with her childhood friend, sejuani from the winter's claw. the frost priests in her tribe also wanted ashe dead, however, and to protect her and keep her by her side, sejuani wanted to name her battlesister and have ashe prove her loyalty by aiding in taking provisions from an allied tribe. refusing to murder allies and become an oathbreaker, the two fought, until ashe chose to leave with the people she was supposed to kill - those who would become the first of the reformed avarosan tribe.with time, she took in more and more tribes and clans who had no one who'd fight for them. as she did, her legend also grew, and people started to claim she was avarosa reborn, the true ice bow a proof of that. ashe doesn't believe those claims, but she's not above using them for her goal: uniting the freljord and forging a better path, with her people no longer fighting one another for survival.
